Yes there’s no excuse for what she did to them, 10 weeks! I quick call if only to say I’m OK is not unreasonable. It’s not like she was broke living under a bridge.
Indeed, terribly selfish way to treat her adoring parents! I get that she was majorly upset with the bank ordeal, but it was cruel to keep them in the dark. As for those who deride Morse of keeping their meeting a secret, it really wasn't his business to tell. Further,I'm sure he thought he would stand nary a chance with a relationship with Joan had he told.
To do what she did in that era was beyond the pale - she would have been viewed as virtually a prostitute - I can't see her wanting her parents to know that. My annoyance was Morse's sudden love for her which had not been suggested at all in the preceding episodes. It just didn't sit right in my view.

Oh, Strange, I must disagree with you about Morse not showing love for Joan earlier on. He was smitten from the very first time he met her. It was oh so plain!
