Lex Luthor returns, kidnaps Lana, forces her to marry him, and assumes the identity of a doctor that created a weapon that could paralyze Superboy forever.

Superboy is aided by Professor Peterson and the two believe that he will one day be able to use his legs and powers again. Lex Luthor taunts the superhero with his new bride, Lana.

Bizarro returns from deep space and enters into a deadly pact with Lex Luthor. Lex will "create" a bride for Bizarro in exchange for a supply of kryptonite which can kill Superboy.

An anonymous letter leads Superboy to Darla's hideout, where she has Lana locked in a meatlocker. She's holding Lana to blackmail Superboy, so he'll bring Luthor back through a portal (created by Dr. Winger) that took him to an alternate world. This alternate world is dark, and chaos has erupted as a result of Luthor's murder by an alternate Superboy. As Superboy tries to return Luthor, he and an alternate Dr. Winger attack him with kryptonite.

Superboy jumps through the portal to escape the kryptonite assault. In this world, he is the "Sovereign," a dictator that rules using fear tactics. Lana and Luthor, lovers in this world, are leading a revolution to overthrow the Sovereign. Lana arms herself with kryptonite bomb to destroy the Sovereign, hurting both versions of Superboy. But when she sets off the bomb, killing them both, the first alternate Superboy rescues the original Superboy from the kryptonite-laden shockwave. When all is done, Superboy destroys the portal.

Lex Luthor has a plan to destroy the world's population with a series of dirty bombs, but first he must get rid of Superboy.

Superboy is trapped inside Lex Luthor's virtual reality computer program, and now Lana must enter the program to save Superboy before it's too late.

A prison psychiatrist helps Lex Luthor and Metallo escape, all three quickly turning their attention to stopping Superboy once and for all.

Lex Luthor has just hit Superboy with a deadly kryptonite bomb. Now he gloriously recounts in detail how he planned and executed the devious plan, which he feels certain has killed Superboy.
