The final season didn't really make sense.I thought they had somehow fixed everything, and the plane landing was some alternate timeline they created by altering the past. And then at the church Jack's Dad shows up and tells him that they are all dead. The Bible makes it clear that Purgatory does not exist. So what WAS this alternate reality in which the plane landed? Were they all experiencing memories from an alternate timeline?

Everything in the preceding seasons was real, but the "flash sideways" in the final season were the characters working towards making peace with themselves after their deaths and reuniting with their loved ones before "moving on". Doesn't really matter what it says The Bible; it wasn't supposed to be an accurate representation of Christian mythology.

I watched the complete series twice. The ending show was brilliant. Like any other show that comes to an end, this was alike all the others. This one was similar but with a twist. The last farewell. The final good bye. They made their peace with themselves that yes, they had died. J.J. Abrahams did a so so job on this. The story lines were really good and well written.
