Yes, according to the Stargate chronology I found on Reddit, it is the first movie I had to watch.
The characters are a little different in the series, mainly O'Neill isn't a macho, gungho military asshole like Russell's version in the movie. Also, some of the same actors crossed over into the series.
I loved the series, for the most part, there were a couple of 'story arcs' I hated though.

Thank you, I'm really looking for a series with space travel with other worlds, civilizations...
It seems to me that there is no other such series, right?

Babylon 5
Farscape
The Orville
The many Star Trek series (Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager, etc.)
Stargate SG-1 had a couple of spinoffs (Atlantis, Universe, & an animated one called Infinity).
I just started it (after watching every ST series). Went from the theatrical movie to the first episode. I'm watching on Netflix... mainly because Pluto (which is free but they only have the first 5 seasons?) cropped the show to widescreen making it hard for me to enjoy. Strangely, ITunes has it for sale in the same cropped format. Although fun the first 3 or 4 episodes are shaky plot wise. I wish they spelled out why all the locations they visit speak English after episode 3 (it's a relief because having 10 minutes of them trying to communicate is quite tedious even in the film). I should just start DVRing the show off Comet so I can get rid of Netflix again. Like all the series I've binged lately (90s sci fi) it seems like this one will take a few seasons to settle in. BTW, the early 70s show UFO looks so much better today than the way they archived SG1. This show is in need for a fix... I know the rights of SG1 is fragmented to it's hard to get it together but man this first season is VHS quality.

How many episodes of SG-1 are you watching in a day?
So then you will be done with season 1 next week? Don't forget to come back & give your impressions of the season. I know it took a little while for them to find their 'feet' but...? It is one of my favorite series.

Near the end of Season one. Yeah, the combination of the stories getting much better (not just going to a new planet each week) and the actors finding their grooves it's a comfy sci-fi show. Some VERY similar plot lines as my last binge UFO tbh. But very likeable. I like that they did some different stories to flesh things out. I'm expecting they get into the politics of the military base and internal conflicts. Richard Dean Anderson is quite good and some of his quips are very funny. I know they do recycle old sci fi plots from other shows and movies (there's a Heart of Darkness episode, rescuing a characters son, the women take over and so on) but they really seem to have found endless stories that they can show outside of "planet of the week" episodes. The language thing that bothered me seems to be gone (I think because - and very softly hinted - it's more like the Gate makes it so whomever goes through gets the ability to speak in the native tongue but all the text still has to be decoded. ) The acting is dated but much better now that they've all found character, and the CGI is soft but short of a remaster of the show there's not much you can do about that.
OK. Got to Season 4. Things are looking very good now. Some strong sci-fi episodes but with interesting recurring characters. Last night I watched Scorched Earth and it was an excellent one... In the grand tradition of Star Trek, this show took a few seasons to really get going.

I love this show & watch it in reruns on a regular basis on Comet. I personally think it has aged just fine.

I guess it has the same level of comedy as in Alien 2 for exemple?
And do you know if there are any serious series like The Expanse but with alien races? Thank you!

Battlestar Galactica
But there aren't many alien races.
