Absolutely! I've been avoiding this board ever since I suggested Tilda Swinton be the next Doctor. Really interested in seeing what the next season will be like.
Hey bud, maybe I can offer an alternate perspective for you.
I'm a 29yo dude in every means of the sense. I've never been into Doctor Who because I wasn't exposed to it earlier in life. I do however love Sci-Fi and especially anything related to time travel. I've been meaning to get around to it, but just never have.
Now as a dude, normally I'm not fond of "PC" roles being added for the sake of it. However, I first saw Jodie Whittaker likely one month ago in a film called Adult Life Skills. It was brilliant. I like "regular films" where you can relate to a quirky character going through some kind of personal crisis. I relate. Jodie was brilliant in it. It was the first thing I'd seen her in and I loved her in it so much I took note of her name. I said next time I see her name I'll give it a go.
A few weeks later I watched Black Mirror and saw her in an episode of that. Again she was brilliant.
Now when I heard someone say Tilda Swinton was going to be the next Doctor, well as someone who doesn't yet watch, I couldn't care and thought gross. I just didn't see it. But alas, when I read this news, and after seeing someone say reincarnation (or whatever happens in the Dr. Who universe) about Time Lords being a woman has already been a plot point, I see no reason to not believe them, so great.
Personally, as a huge new fan of Jodie Whittaker and a big fan of sci-fi and even bigger fan of time travel, I'm really excited to get on board with Dr. Who this time around.
Perhaps you haven't watched Jodie in anything? It'd behoove you to watch Adult Life Skills. It made me a fan and personally, as a non conformist, no "PC Culture" kinda dude, I'm DTW (Down To Who) :P
It's not PC, it was inevitable, and surprisingly not done earlier. Sydney Newman, the show's creator, stated at some point it will happen (he wanted a female 6th Doctor). This is just going along with his vision for the character, albeit a lot later than he wanted.

It's double PC; Pretty Cool AND Perfect Casting!

I'm curious how many "loyal" fans they'll lose with this casting. It won't matter though, they'd gain viewers with this casting decision.

It was a calculated move to please liberal SJWs... they aren't a huge market. I hope the show tanks.
