A lot has been said about Hawley referencing previous seasons of Fargo, the movie Fargo and other favorites of his. After completing season 3 of Fargo and having watched (and loved!!) Legion, I think I see the reverse of this happening. In Legion, there are several references to a wolf - the small wolf figurine that the Eye carves and sets on the table in front of David in the interrogation room; the (black) wolf in the cage of D3's tactical HQ, the wolf statue outside of Clockworks and finally the wolf's head cane that Clark uses as he "suits up" to go battle David. Nothing ever really came of it though, no real direct connection to the season of Legion. Maybe in the second season? So, I posit that Hawley had a seed of an idea for Fargo season 3 of the wolf and put references to it in Legion, perhaps as a precursor to season 3 of Fargo.

I'm not sure about Hawley's use of the wolf totem and all the different shows that he might have been alluding back to (like Goldfarb actress having been in the movie Dances with Wolves). But too little too late, I just finished season 3 of Better Call Saul, and apparently Nacho who works for Hector Salamanca has the last name of Varga. Hawley had made another almost reference to BCS and Breaking Bad when he used a name close to Ehrmantrout which was Ehrmantroub. I had breezed through an article months ago where Hawley spoke publicly with Vince Gilligan (BB and BCS showrunner) about how he admired his shows.
