I finished watching Season/Series 2 about a week ago. It certainly did not disappoint, with strong performances and compelling storylines throughout.
It's surprising that this terrific series hasn't gotten more discussion here on TMDb, as popular and highly regarded as it's known to be. Surely many of our site's members have watched it.

I always see this (and Luther) on top British shows list so I thought it's really popular. Glad to finally watch it, each episode leaves me wanting more.

This series (both seasons thereof), indeed, is addictive, as it's so well done, the situations and relationships are interesting, believable, and compelling, the casting's perfect, and you readily find yourself caring about the characters - even the ones who are "the bad guys" or who otherwise are not exactly lily white, as there's a lot of complexity in the characterizations and the performances.
Hopefully Season 3 will come about sooner rather than later, though from what I've read there's no set production plan regarding it. It'll probably just happen when things eventually come together right, scheduling wise, for all necessary participants. One thing for sure is that S3 will need to be set multiple years (not right after) following where/when S2 concluded, as the boy who plays grandson Ryan will have had a conspicuous major growth spurt by now (let alone by a year or two from now), S2 having filmed in probably 2015.
By the way, I originally hated the opening/closing credits song , "Trouble Town" - its folksy singing and sound - the first couple or so episodes of Season 1, though then it wound up stuck in my head and I found myself unexpectedly crazy about it and looking forward to hearing it again, one episode to the next. Go figure. lol
