I was hoping with Rip back, he would take back control but the writers seem determined to keep her as captain. I prefer the badass asassin version of her character.

I'm not either. She's honestly terrible in my opinion, but the characters on the show keep insisting that she's such a great captain and has done much better than Rip. How exactly? Wasn't she also the one that told Darhk about his future even though they all knew he was working with a speedster that could travel through time? Seriously, what an idiot.

All of the characters are too often written as incompetent; Sara is about as apt to be their Captain as any of them, I suppose, but yeah, I'm just not buying it. Rip saying at the end of last night's episode, that she's surpassed him as captain and he has nothing left to teach her was ludicrous. Just his advanced knowledge of history, in contrast to her only being from the early 21st century, proves that idea wrong; never mind her complete lack of proper training as a time traveler.
I did have a thought a few months back that it might be interesting to use the captaincy as a way to grow Mick as a character. Even as 2-dimensional as they all are, Mick has gotten the short straw, even as they keep trying to write him as more sympathetic. I mean, he helped save the world during the alien invasion, was honored by the president for that contribution, but still finds himself in the middle of a story that throws his loyalties up in the air like it's still season 1. If they wanted to, they could make Mick a much more well rounded character; and a source of knowledge and experience from his time as Chronos. He's the closest thing after Rip to anyone with any real time travel training, but they keep making him far too stupid. His time as a crook gives him at least some strategic aptitude, and there could be some good character growth potential in putting him into a position to have to make some very difficult command decisions.
Sara is better kicking ass and taking names; she's chief of security and one of the stronger field operatives, but she's hardly a leader.
