And apparently the best solution to all of it would presumably have been to go back to 1956 before Rip and the JSA found the Spear and used its power to make it an ineffectual liar that's all promise with no delivery, guaranteeing they still safe guard it but it's nothing but a showy weapon with no wish fulfillment. The Legion would obtain the Spear and, being very proud of themselves, proceed to utter the incantation and be extremely disappointed. Meanwhile, Merlyn gets a fancy, unbreakable Spear that drives its wielder steadily insane. Good job, alternate universe Legends that took that course of action!
