Who else saw the amulet Zari was using and instantly recognized it as belonging to O Mighty Isis? I used to love watching The Shazam/Isis Hour on Saturday Morning TV as a kid, so I'm glad to see her back on the small screen. Considering how Isis's name is now associated during these times, this was truly unexpected.

She seems kind of redundant with Amaya there though.

If she's anything like the TV show or comics she's extremely powerful (Wonder Woman level of power), and she has the ability to control all elements, animals and plants. Also, she's clairvoyant so has a new power that could be useful to a time travel team, as well as has the ability to stop time. I don't know how much of her abilities they will use (since she's basically a god), but it'll be interesting to see what they'll do with that.
Either way, I've been a huge Isis fan since I was a kid so I'm giddy about this development.

Does Isis have to recite a poem in order to use her powers?
"Oh Zephyr winds which blow on high, lift me now, so I can fly!"

So far in this show they're not doing that. She just summons the winds and flies, without the poetry. I always liked the poetry because it matches what is written in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. If you've ever read it, it's basically a guide, useful tips book, and instruction manual for the afterlife. Also, it contains a lot of poetic spells used to deal with everything that could be encountered there.

I might give this show a shot if I can find the time. I used to watch Isis too back in the day. This was before terrorism perverted the good name of Isis.

That's interesting. So Isis reciting poetry actually had a basis in Egyptian history...I was not aware of this.

Yep, though the spells in the book of the dead aren't as short (in fact the verses could be quite lengthy), they're no less poetic. If Isis on the show used actual spells from the book of the dead, much of an episode would be just her reciting the spell to fly.
The book of the dead is basically just an instruction manual/spell book. It reads like, if you need to do this thing (like fly, transform into an animal, breath underwater, etc..), then recite these verses (sometimes a spell needs to be done at certain times, or locations). It's probably the most straightforward how-to like book I've ever read on magic. It assumes that those that are using it aren't going to be very knowledgeable about magic or religion, so it structures itself more like a travel guide (or idiots guide) of things you need to know when traversing the afterlife so it's not heavy on explanations on why you should do a thing (nor the mechanics of it), only that you should do it.
I had to do research for a video game a long time ago, so had to be very well read on the occult, which included reading the Book of the Dead, the Bible, The Malleus Malefficarum, The Key of Solomon, much of Crowley's works, and books of Wicca including Uncle Buckey's big blue book (any Wiccans on this board should be familiar with that). The perk I got for doing this was I still have all those books
, that and now I'm a font of trivia on the occult.

Goodness. If I ever did acid and had a flashback, it would have probably felt like what I just experienced. I have not thought of that show since I last watched it. Wow, what a trip. That was a COOL show!

This version is using the Air totem. Remember from Vixen season 2, it was revealed that there were several totems. Amaya has the animal totem, Kusua has the water totem, we also seen a villain use the fire totem, and now Zari has the air totem.

Does this mean Amaya is Ma-Ti?
