Discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation

Now that IMDB is closeing down it looks like TMDB looks like the best. A differant format but pretty close once you get use to it.

Oh, okee doke. Glad you made it over, dude. This site takes some getting used to, but I think we're going to like it here.

I wonder if that's the real CJ or one of his evil dopplegangers?

Yes I am here from IMDB after having to live without all my pals from the TNG board I was curious what happened to them and saw some link to this site and behold there are quite a number of familiar faces here still has to work out how to reply thing works here though.

@cjh8504 : Hi there CJ is it really you and not some clone?

Yes, it's me. Now, kindly blow it out your ass.

@cjh8504 : That's no way to greet a fellow poster from the old TNG board on IMDB CJ.

I'm from imdb. Strange. There is very little traffic on these boards. I guess it wasn't the mass exodus from imdb like we had hoped. Everyone must have scattered to other sites like the cockroaches in my apartment when I turn on the lights.

Not sure what other sites come close to this?

My only complaint about this site is no Trivia or Goofs section. Adding to IMDB's lists is one of my hobbies. I presently have about 110 approved entries on various series and films. Added a lot of them to the TAS board.

You still visit IMDB Jet? I hardly go there anymore (once in a while to check some reviews of movies I've seen in the cinema, but that's about it.

Only if I have to. Meaning, if I can't find the desired info on Wikipedia, here, or on another site. And then once I get what I need from IMDB, I bolt. They not only track # of hits, but length of time on the site. So when I do go there, I spend as little time as I can.

I still think closing the site, and wiping clean years of messages was an unbelievable poor decision. So much good info was destroyed. The people were a great resource, and a fun community. If we have to shut down boards because of trolls, we might as well close the internet.

There was a simple fix: A better ignore feature. But at the end of the day, that would have required new code to be written, and they hadn't updated the archaic functionality of those boards in years and years.

Only to add Trivia and Goofs items. I amassed most of the 110 I mentioned long before IMDB's message boards went under. I just found out from Travis Bell that TMDB is planning on adding them. grinning

Well it's the same here Censor if I can get my info from elsewhere(I use a lot of Memory Alpha in things related to Star Trek besides this board )But I do miss those comment sections which would often give a more "realistic" idea of what people thought of a movie more often than the reviews.

I agree the boards provided a wealth of information on various subjects and where one could discuss movies that weren't popular with the masses but had some cult following and it was always nice and interesting to hear their views or explanations about certain subject or juicy background stories.

That to me seemed the most logical thing to do and they could also have asked a small annual fee like $5-10 and use that money to update their software and have persons look after the boards.

Yeah. They took the cowardly way out. And in effect, allowed the trolls to win.

The thing about IMDB was that it was THE place to go to. It took YEARS to get the following it had, right from the infancy of the internet. And they just flushed it all away.
