@Nexus71
Didn't you know that O'Brien is from Ireland? In fact, in one episode of DS9 he arranged for Odo to visit O'Brien's parents in Dublin when Odo was going to visit Earth. :-) :-)

Well I knew he was from Ireland only have a hard time connecting Kim Carnes with Miles O'Brien and potatoes and his heritage ,wasn't a lack of potatoes the reason why so many Irish left for "The New World" after Ireland was struck by the potato-disease in the 1820's.

@Nexus71 : Yes. The potato crop, which was the main food source for the Irish, failed four years in a row due to some kind of blight. The English refused to help the starving Irish population, and although even though wheat was growing normally, it was all on the estates of the English landowners, and they made sure that it was all shipped to England.
About one million Irish died of starvation, and (I think at least 1.5 million) emigrated, mostly to America. In fact, there are almost 40 million Americans that have some Irish heritage in them.

maybe those 1.5 million Irish were just fed up with only eating potatoes and wanted to try Pizza Hut or Taco Bell?

@Nexus71 : Unfortunately not. In fact there are rumors that some of the people in the remote parts of the country resorted to cannibalism.
