Alien lite.
This one hit the spot. I love stories where the bad guy is hidden in plain sight and no one is to be trusted. Paranoia gets the adrenaline flowing.
It isn't an original concept but it was reasonably well done. It was set up in an earlier episode and not weighed down with any irrelevant subplots.
No Wesley!
This show is definitely getting its footing.

Yes this is what I consider the first really good episode. Season 2 has a few more really good ones (a couple are among the best of the series), plus the rest of the episodes are not quite as bad as season 1 episodes on average. Then with season 3, the show really hits its stride and is great from there on out.

With the ending set up for a continuing story that was never really resolved. Maybe they were assimilated by the Borg.

And/or, many aliens think and work in different time frames. There's an excellent short story by Larry Niven called "Cautionary Tales" that is relevant, and in the Enterprise series we're told that the Axanar, just for one example, live over 400 years. It may have taken decades for the signal to reach its destination, and then decades longer for the aliens to follow up on it. But the show only lasted 6 more years.

Or the Borg were infected by the aliens ?
