He's no Brenner, that's for sure. You get the impression he was keeping a few things to himself though. It is strange that he survived an attack like that and there's no dead demogorgon beside him. Generally either you get them or they get you. I suppose it's possible the Mind Flayer called them all back to form a perimeter around the gate (where Hopper found them) at the exact moment one was munching on Dr. Owens' leg, but I guess we'll see. If some sort of trickery was involved it will come out as the story continues.

I assumed (and I thought it was quite obvious) that the demodogs were called to Will's house when Dr. Owens was attacked.

Only a handful of them were called to Will's house. The rest were deployed around the gate to prevent any more of those pesky humans from trying to interfere (or burn stuff). That's where Hopper found them, and would've had to shoot his way through if not for Steve and company's diversion. It seems like Dr. Owens simply lucked out. He was being attacked at the exact moment the Mind Flayer decided other things were a priority and he wasn't.

Yes, but Dr. Owens was only attacked by one Demodog (he would be dead if there were more), and that one was most likely called to Will's house. But you're right, all of them had their attentions diverted so Dr. Owens certainly got lucky. RIP Bob.
