Just wondering, since I saw the Netflix version of episode 1. On broadcast TV, were there subtitles for the Klingon speech at the start? Netflix didn't insert them, and I think if I turn on subtitles generally, I'll get them for the whole episode, not just the "foreign" stuff.

Yes, there were subtitles at the beginning in the Klingon scene. You'd think those subtitles would have been burned-in, since it's so integral to the story. What, they think all Star Trek fanboys can understand Klingon?

I think the reason they don't have those embedded for the other versions is because the English subtitles for just the Klingon sections, is only one option. They also have English subtitles for EVERYTHING - for the hard of hearing, I guess - and the foreign-language subtitles have to be for everything too, and if English subtitles for the Klingon sections were already there, it gets awkward. So all the subtitles are separate, and you have to "turn on" just the "partial" English subtitles that only show up for the Klingons. At least that's what I found. US-sold DVD/Blu-ray versions in the future will likely have the Klingon sections subtitles included at least by default.
