What did you think about episode 3 and the captain? I honestly liked it a lot. After watching the first two episodes, I must admit I was bored in the end but now things are really looking up. The truth is I live in Europe, so I don't have to pay extra to watch it, I have Netflix so it's ok. I don't think I would pay to watch it; just wait for it to become available later on.
Spoilers ahead if you haven't watched it.
So, black uniforms, black ops, black alarms, monsters, mutilated bodies and nerdy engineers, yeah! I got a "Cabin in the Woods" meets "Event Horizon" meets Willow from "Buffy" feeling while watching it. I don't know, you guys, initially I was very sceptical but now I think this is going to be a hell of a ride.
Also, what do you think of Isaacs? I think he's doing a great job, he's an amazing actor. I don't really like the hair piece, he could definitely go without, oh well; his accent is great and I really, really hope that he's going to be very bad in the show, like "evil" bad, not "acting" bad... What is up with the Tribble though? I thought that they didn't know they existed yet? Can they travel everywhere and anyTIME with that technology of theirs? Or is it that Sektion 31 already knew about Tribbles long before everyone found out?

I'm enjoying the show. I liked the show from the start. But i gotta admit that Isaacs as captain lorca really stepped it up a level. I really hope that he stays around for a long while. I have watched every single episode of every star trek series. But i'm so forgetful that i can't remember if the tribbles have been around that early in the federations existence. But i do notice that you think lorca is section 31. I hope he is. Let's face it, the bad guys are more interesting.

Episode 3 was intriguing - certainly much better than the first two.
I wasn't really a fan of the show being entirely centred around one character's perspective, but I guess it worked as a way of introducing the mysterious Discovery and her Captain.
I've got a funny feeling that this could possibly land up being a show in BSG territory - dealing with differing ethical views re rights and wrongs within the war setting.
One thing though - I'm just going to watch this as a sci-fi show in it's own right, forgetting anything about this having anthing to do with any other Star Trek series, i.e. treat it as a complete reboot...

Well, it's possible that like JJ Abrams basically made Star Wars movies and gave them Star Trek names, now they might be remaking Battlestar Galactica AGAIN and calling it Star Trek. Wouldn't that be just ******* wonderful?
And sometime in the future, ignorant teenagers might believe that Star Trek was just a remake of Battlestar Galactica!

More than one YouTube channel discussing "Star Trek: Discovery" have suggested that the title should be "Star Trek: Unit 31." (And not just because the ship is "NCC-1031," either.) When the large number of laboratories was mentioned, I got a "Unit 731" chill. (That was the World War II Japanese military Biowar complex that used anything and everyone to perform the most unspeakable experiments that make Nazi practices pale by comparison.) Another channel took a very detailed look at Captain Lorca's "ready room" and found skeletons, alien weapons, and (dead?) animals that aren't yet known to Starfleet. As for the "spore drive," did that Klingon-killer running loose on U.S.S. Glenn result from an unexpected mutation of a crewman/chief scientist/Tribble? Also, consider this equation: "Star Trek: Unit 31" = Weyland Yutani. The "glass floor" of the "ready room" suggest to some that there are containment cells below and that "Discovery" is a Zoo ship, as well.

Well if that's what their doing, among other things I expect it to have a rather limited lifespan no matter what. A series basically revolving around USS Section 31 doesn't really seem to hold much potential for long-term audience interest. Not like TOS did or any of the other series.

Well I loved the BSG reboot so it would be for me - who knows, perhaps the human looking final 5 Klingons are amoung the Discovery crew as well 😁
Anyway, having watched three episodes of both, it's clear that The Orville is the true Star Trek spiritual successor, even without the official branding, so I'm happy to give this a shot and just forget it's supposed to have anything to do with any other Star Trek...

As far as I'm concerned the BG "reboot" had no more business being called BG than the JJ Abrams movies - or this - have being called "Star Trek." (The BG "reboot" was entirely different, making the Cylons human-created rather than leftover from supposedly-extinct aliens etc, but they showed some of the old-style Cylons anyway to kinda-but-not-really "link them," barf... Like with Tribbles and Klingons etc for ST:D. They should have just called it a different name instead of saying it was BG again, and made it really original. Firefly proved that can still work.) But anyway... (And it really is BG for reasons we needn't hash out again. BSG stands for Battlestar Strike/Ship Group. That's why the emblems of both the Galactica and Pegasus groups have BSG numbers. If BSG stands for Battlestar Galactica - which isn't a proper acronym to start with, same as International Business Machines was never INBM - then BSG Pegasus means Battlestar Galactica Pegasus. Which is nonsense.)
Sadly, ratings for The Orville have reportedly plummeted since moving to Thursdays. Maybe that will pick up some, with better stories getting more interest. I hope so. And if you haven't seen ep 4 of The Orville yet, you're in for something of a treat. Not that it's a totally original story, but they did it pretty well. (I actually thought ep 3 was rather dumb, for reasons explained on that show's "board.")
That's probably the best option, but it's just too hard for me to ignore how much they're trying to make it Star Trek.

YouTube channel "Trekyards" took an in-depth look at Capt. Lorca's "cabin" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggfcKE66s4c As is the current Hollywood, it's all in the shadows. (Doesn't it look Mysterious? How about Foreboding? Ain't it Dangerous? No, it's just DARK. Turn on the lights~)

As soon as I read the captain's surname my eyebrow went up like Spock's ...in Italian if you place an apostrophe between the L and the O you get L'orca which means killer whale .. I wonder if that was done on purpose .. Could that be a hidden clue in regards to the captain 's true tendency?

You mean that he wants to cruise through space swallowing up space-shrimp and stuff? Or as another Moby Dick reference?
Or maybe they picked Lorca because Loco was too obvious?
As far as names with "hidden" meaning - at least until you see it in print - it's hard to beat Mr Atoz.

Neither....Killer whales don't eat shrimps and despite its name ,K.......WHALES don't belong to the whale family but the dolphin family
As for the Loco reference ...no I don't think Lorca is mad so I didn't see the connection .
Killer whales are highly intelligent, aggressive , predators...
Goes for Lorca ,he's someone you don't want to get in his way or mess around with. He was obviously up to some project of his own and then the war got in the way... he's anxious to get back on track and his interest, quasi affection for Michael is curious, too.
He is definitely an interesting character ...full of dark secrets .
