Discuss Star Trek: Discovery

Not a super huge Star Trek fan, but I did watch entire Voyager which I liked, and many other episodes of New Generation, Deep Space 9 , movies and more. First season of discovery was more or less ok, the story was interesting enough and the production was nice. Still, I couldn't not notice few very annoying main characters. But the second season was absolutely unbearable. It took a lot for me to finish it and I lost count to the amount of times I rolled my eyes and wished it would be over.

Everyone in this show is so annoying, few characters on extremely painful level. That Tilly is completely Jar Jar Binks, I just wanted to punch her in the face every time she was on screen. Burnham is very bad character with the exaggerated melodramatic side the writers gave her. Her ability to start deeply emotional conversations with pretty much everyone and be extremely sensitive to everything is absolutely irrational based on how she was raised on Vulcan. I mean her emotional side is so amped up it is unrealistic for anyone to behave this way. That emphasis on emotional goodbyes, tears, closures and being involved in other's life is simply impossible for any human with normal psyche. It is not possible for people to be in the same closed space of work and living like spaceship and not to develop polite apathy towards others. I have no idea why the writers focused so much on that.

And other characters are really bad and stupid. Pike is a caricature, Saru is pointless and stupid, Stamets is bad actor, Spock is anemic and has no charisma at all, others are really insignificant. The only two characters that somehow were above others were Ash and Georgiou with better story arcs and better presence. But the second season managed to ruin even them. The writing was so dumb, lacking any internal logic, things just happened with some stupid explanation, there was nothing remotely interesting or captivating, the major parts were dedicated mostly to closeups of Burnham's stupid face with big eyes and tears. It was a complete torture.

I will not return to watch season 3, I don't care about anything that can happen to these characters. I just hope Star Trek Picard will be better than this crap.

STP is very much like STD it is written and produced by the same people.

Leave it alone. I don't understand people who continue to watch it, if they don't like it. I drop it in the middle of season one, while we have Orville, Expanse, some new shows.

STP have Patrick Stewart. STD have nothing notable (exc performance of Jason Isaacs, but he falls to be moron as the all other staff).

But Stewart is acting like Stewart or Professor X from the Logan movie and not like Jean Luc Picard.Picard in STP is acting like a masochist.

So in other words more Star Trek for simpletons

I watched Star Trek Picard as well and while it has less melodrama and tears and the story was a bit more interesting, it is still full of annoying characters and is written as bad as Discovery. Capable people work on new shows, develop them, struggle with characters and story lines, eventually bring up the shows after hard work and make them successful. But then the franchise falls into the hands of really inept people that keep ruining it. It happens so many times.

Alex Kurtzman ;The man who gave us falling stars and sonar in space. laughing
