Is it just me or do they seem to be attracted? I will be most disappointed if their real life counterparts were not so inclined. It would then seem to be yet another attempt at political correctness.

No,it's highly unlikely. It's just a way for TPTB to be PC? Here is an article about Mr. Drummond, pay particular attention to the last paragraph. Also I know that a lot of people back then hid there preferences by marrying but Paget & his wife had 14 children, which is quite a lot for a fake marriage.

The Powers That Be, a way to say the writers/creators or showrunners. As for research I have always loved History so when I watch these kinds of shows I tend to be a bit critical when they play fast & loose with the facts (especially when they make stuff up to get higher ratings). Although I do enjoy most of them.
Right now I'm in the middle of watching 'Tut' and it could have been so much better.

The series' presented Alfred and Drummond mutual attraction appears to have absolutely no basis in anything historically known or even rumoured/speculated. I guess the writers took two real-life historical figures who'd have had cause to cross paths regularly, then invented, completely out of thin air, a romantic storyline for them.

Thank you both of you for echoing my sentiments. I was afraid I was gonna get flamed.
