Wikipedia, TVDB and TMDb all have different guidelines. TMDb follows the format of the original release. So was the episode originally broadcast on ABC in one part or two?

Wikipedia indicate the episode 23 and 24 was aired in one part. You're right.

Before being split in 2 episodes, it was initially aired as one single part. We always follow the original broadcast.
In the "notes" of that Wikipedia page, you can read : "This is the series' first two-hour episode. It is being aired as two episodes in syndication." That means that it has originally been broadcasted as one single episode and that it has only been split in 2 episodes later for the syndication.

can you explain what "syndication" means? BTW has you mentioned the page say that's is being aired as two episodes.. there are difference for me between the production (2 hour episode) and the first air of two splitted episodes.. there no air of a single two hour episode. and everywhere is mentioned as part 1 and 2.. but if here you want to be always different, this is another thing. I'm trying to align themoviedb to the rest of the internet.

"Syndication" is the fact for a network to distribute a programm to its affiliate networks. This generally took place after the first broadcast by the main network. The affiliate networks have timeslots reserved for programms coming from their parent networks. These timeslots have generally a fixed duration and can't easily managed double length episodes. For that reason, the longer episodes are generally split in this process.
The page indicates that the split took place for syndication, that means that the initial broadcast before syndication was as a single episode.
There are no reason to align the different sites. Each site has its own set of rules.
Here, on TMDB, we always use the original broadcast order.
IMDB, being a subsidiary of Amazon, generall list the series the way they are available on Amazon Prime or on DVD that Amazon sell.
TVDB give the priority to the current listing if there is one on the network site.
