Also, I'm not sure how old Bette Davis was supposed to be when this is taking place but Susan Sarandon looks AWFUL.

I disagree about Susan looking awful, I think she looks pretty good, especially for a woman who is 70 years old. As for the age that she is supposed to be, well, Bette Davis was 54 when they filmed "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" and I think Susan looks around the same age that Bette was back then.

While I do like Alfred Molina's character (Robert Aldrich), I find Bette and Joan to be likeable as well... in their own way. I mean, we know from the start that they are no angels, but so far, we haven't seen them doing anything bad, except maybe for a few mean remarks to each others.

Also, when I saw the trailers, I wasn't too convinced with Susan's portrayal of Bette, but after seeing the first episode, I can definitely see her as Bette, despite the fact that she doesn't sound like her.

I wasn't aware it was a series until I started watching. I thought it was a two-hour movie.

If Dixie Carter was still alive she would've made a great Joan Crawford. Jessica Lange didn't really look like her.

70 is the new 50! I guess it is easier living .... people really are aging better. You are right - Susan Sarandon does look great, I must be honest .... I double checked her age because I thought she was younger.

She sure looks amazing for a woman of her age and she doesn't look all plastic, which is great.

Bette Davis is the one who looked much older than her age. She looked much older in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" then Susan Sarandon looks now! I'm sure Davis smoked and drank to excess like most film stars of her day. Years ago, there was no awareness about how aging cigarettes and alcohol are. Even male actors of that era looked beaten up by the time they were 45 or 50--like Errol Flynn for instance.

Tif: ears ago, there was no awareness about how aging cigarettes and alcohol are. Even male actors of that era looked beaten up by the time they were 45 or 50--

So true!

Me either. Now, I guess I'm watching a series, because I'm hooked.

Does no one love Jackie Hoffman as Mamacita? She's such a hoot and she always has Joan's back. What would Joan have done without her?

Yes, she's pretty funny! I love her serious demeanor and her loyalty towards Joan. Her character is definitely a revelation to me and I don't think I've seen the actress before either. I don't know anything about the real life Mamacita, but I'll be looking about her. I came across this photo, not long ago:

Kathy, I was thinking the exact same thing. With that said, I wonder how Mamacita could stand by and watch Joan go after Christina, if it is true that she was Mommy Dearest.

I re-read this a couple of times to be sure I read it right. Susan Sarandon is stunning. I told my daughter the other day that she keeps looking more and more beautiful and younger with each episode. Someone said she is 70, and I can hardly believe it. She looks in her 40s. I had no idea. And, if I remember correctly, I think I heard or read a comment by her a long time ago that she didn't do plastic surgery. I am paraphrasing. I think the subject was her boobs, which are natural.

I agree. Susan Sarandon does not look or act like any 70 year old woman I have seen. She is not only youthful and incredibly attractive but she is full of energy and excitement for living. More importantly, she doesn't have that plastic surgery look or that botoxed face that so many of the aging stars have now. Betty Davis is the one who looked very old and beaten up when she was only 53 the year she starred in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. I couldn't believe it when I looked up her age at the time she made Baby Jane. As I said earlier, Davis probably looked old for her years because of heavy drinking and smoking.
