Oh I totally agree both will get nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini Series or Movie. Jessica Lange won in 2012 and 2014 for this same category for American Horror Story. So I'm thinking that works in Sarandon's favor.
Sorry what does Susan have to do with Jessica being winning in 2012 and 2014.

Theoretically nothing, LadyGigi. But academy members are people. Lange also won the Golden Globe for Horror Story. So if it close in their minds, Lange's previous wins would enter into their calculation. Give it to someone else this time. If I had a vote, it would be for Sarandon. When I worked for CBS I attended many Emmy ceremonies and I know that goes into the thought process.

Nah, I think that actors are nominated and win based on the strength of their performance especially concerning The Emmys or Golden Globes. The Academy Awards is a whole other story. I thought you were implying that Jessica's performance would cast more attention to the entire cast to be nominated as an ensemble. I like Stanley Tucci's performance as Jack Waner and I've always been a fan of Alfred Molina. I think Alfred is a solid actor. Kathy is alright, she's a delight. I was very surprised at Catherine Zeta Jones as Olivia de Havilland. She's almost unrecognizable. Judy's dramatic performance is a bit over the top but I like it anyway. It's just what the series needs though.
And actually if I were to be completely honest with you. Susan gives the most natural performance of the actresses because she doesn't have as much material to recreate Bette Davis like Jessica has with playing Joan. Joan Crawford has such a bad reputation after her adopted daughter Christian wrote that book Mommy Dearest and Faye Dunaway's performance in the screen adaptation definitely hurt Joan's reputation. But I've seen Joan in interviews and she was completely the opposite of how she is portrayed by Christina. She was reserved, soft spoken and humble. She did the interview later in her career. She looked to be in her early 60s although I could be off by a few years give or take. When you read any of her quotes especially the ones on IMDB's bio page of Joan Crawford, you can tell that she has class, is very articulate and educated even when dissing Bette Davis. lol
So, I think that the writing in this show as it pertains to Joan's personality definitely relies on the sensationalism that Christian Crawford created when she decided to attack her mom's character all because she didn't inherit any money after Joan's death.
I'd be pretty shocked if they weren't both nomitated in the limited series category. I feel like both of these roles were both made for nominations and potentially wins.
One would like to think awards are based on strength of performance and most of the time it is. But inside politics play "a part" as well. I was particularly aware of the outcry last year at the Oscars about the lack of diversity in the nominations. Political correctness should not enter into what is supposed to be a total objective critique of performance. Not, as Martin Luther King said, based on the color of your skin. Have you noticed the score? Scoring is so important, pivotal when conveying
mood, tone and emotion. I am biased toward this series not only because I marketed most of their films on video and a huge TCM fan (R.I.P Robert Osborne. The tribute to him last night on TCM was amazing), but as I've stated before, dad knew Bette Davis and she was super nice to him. He confided to me Gary Merrill stunk in the show (The World of Carl Sandburg). LOL

I'd really prefer not discussing social politics and The Academy Awards. I prefer to let the public's discussion die down on its own as well as allow this new process implementing more diversity within the Academy's nomination process to follow its path.
