As Naruto sleeps, Kawaki repairs the vase he broke. Suddenly, Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Beast, appears before him. Kurama has been living with Naruto since he was sealed within him and tells Kawaki that Naruto used to be just like him. Upon hearing about Naruto's life, Kawaki aspires to become just like him. He reaffirms his decision to work with Boruto, who is also branded with a Karma, to defeat Jigen and the Kara.

Those with a Karma gradually lose control of their minds and bodies as they undergo Otsutsukification. Naruto convenes a Five Kage Summit to discuss what they should do about Boruto’s condition, as well as Cord, one of the leaders of Kara.

With Denki as captain, Team 5 is assigned to a mission to transport automated puppets for mining purposes to an island in the Land of Water, to test and operate them, to gather data, and to analyze the results. However, lacking physical strength, Denki isn't very useful and ends up being ridiculed. Will Denki be able to restore his reputation as a ninja and successfully complete his first mission as captain?

During the battle against Funamushi, Kagura is fatally injured. Boruto becomes enraged and charges at Funamushi, activating his Karma. When the Funato squad retreats, Kagura gives Boruto and the others one final request.

Boruto and Kawaki join Naruto, Hinata, and Himawari on a family trip to the hot springs. The five have fun playing table tennis and enjoying the food and hot spring at the inn. Kawaki had been hesitant before the trip, not wanting to intrude, but he finds himself enjoying the time with Boruto and others. When he and Boruto learn that the inn is hosting an event which promises a premium gift, they decide to sign up and participate.

Ignoring the danger to his own life, Boruto tells the other test subjects to escape while he takes on the person who may be working for Ouga. But they decide to stay and help Boruto fight the suspect.

As they search for Boruto’s whereabouts, Sarada and her team find themselves surrounded by skilled ninja and uncover unexpected information about the incident.
