Kawaki starts living in the Uzumaki household, and at first he’s bewildered by their peaceful everyday life. Eventually he’s put to ease by the cheerful and welcoming atmosphere of the Uzumakis. Meanwhile, Boruto is furious that Kawaki has broken a vase that his little sister had made for their mother, fanning the flames between them. As a fellow wielder of the Karma, Kawaki makes a proposal.

Kawaki's Karma starts to act up and Jigen, the leader of the Kara, appears before him! Not only are Naruto and Kawaki surprised, but so is Koji Kashin, who had been secretly keeping an eye on Kawaki. Jigen tries to take back Kawaki by force. Upon seeing this, Naruto battles Jigen to protect Kawaki! A direct confrontation between Naruto, the Seventh Hokage, and Jigen, the leader of the Kara, finally begins!

Amado defects from Kara. Desiring to seek asylum in the Leaf Village, he takes Shikadai hostage. If granted asylum, Amado promises to provide the Leaf Village with every bit of knowledge that he has about Kara.

Naruto, proposes that the Chunin Exam be held to raise morale after Isshiki’s attack. Everyone is fired up for the exam, eager to show off the results of their training and experience they’ve gained from missions.

The ship carrying Boruto, his friends, and the people of Dotou Island is dead in the water. A shipbuilder Kajiki and his apprentice Ikada happen to pass by and offer to repair the ship at an island of shipbuilders where they live. Upon arriving on the island, Boruto and his friends try to do whatever they can to help while waiting for their ship to be repaired. Meanwhile, in the seas near the Land of Water, a clash between the pirates of the Funato Clan and the Land of Water is becoming unavoidable.

Boruto and his friends manage to triumph over Funamushi, but they aren’t able to savor the victory. Everyone is having a difficult time believing Denki and Iwabe are still alive days after being captured. Meanwhile, Boruto discovers a hidden side of Funamushi when he is targeted by people who looked up to the pirate, as revenge begets more revenge. Boruto has always continued to push forward until now, but this causes him to question the point of fighting.
