While I also have an issue with slight women beating up opponents far more massive then they are. However, you are making assumptions about Alara. It has been stated she is from a heavy-gravity world. Yes, that by itself, would not explain how she could do some of the things we've seen her do.

However, you are assuming that her bone and muscle tissue must be the same density and tensile strength as a human being's. Having evolved in a heavy gravity environment, that is unlikely. For all we know her bones and muscles could be 6 to 10 times as dense as ours. Which would imply that she could easily weigh 500 to 1000 lbs. Which puts an entirely different spin on things.

I see this a lot; the assumption that lifeforms evolving on other planets must follow the same design plans and suffer the same limitations that earth life forms do.

They may have gotten the idea from GAME OF THRONES, where tiny Arya Stark ( 5 foor 1) keeps outmaneuvering and defeating much larger character. Of course Aray does it by cleverness and skill, not strength.

Let's not forget that simians of similar weight to humans are far more powerful, and they haven't had the benefit of evolving on a planet of higher mass.

The alien Alara could have been explained to have that strength just based on her planet's evolution, even if the planet had the same size and mass of Earth.

So? James Bond and Indiana Jones do things that are impossible all the time. It's fiction, get over it.

Exactly. And it happens in real life too, i.e., Aileen Wuornos, Jody Arias and all of the women killers featured on ID Channel's shows like "Deadly Women" and Oxygens "Snapped".

I don't have a problem with Arya Stark - because she defeated her enemies with "cleverness and skill" (and speed and a sword)

As I stated, I didn't have a problem with Alara because she was not human and there was an explanation for her super strength.

Of course, these shows all have dubious things going on where we need to suspend disbelief but there must be some kind of grounding in the REAL world or a viable explanation for things occurring which violate the laws of physics or we are just left with complete and uttrer crap.

Just because some may want to believe that 90lb human women can destroy men 3 times their size in hand to hand combat doesn't mean that there is ANY basis in reality for it.

Huh? Jody Arias shot her ex-boyfriend in the head and stabbed him and slit his throat. Aileen Wuornos shot all her victims.

I never said that women cannot be violent and vicious or that they cannot kill - I am making the point that tiny women cannot toss around men and aliens that are 3 times their body weight like they are rag dolls. If Michael Burnham shot the Klingons in the head I wouldn't have had a problem with it and I wouldn't have started this thread.

Indiana Jones survived a nuclear blast. Bruce Lee can fight 20 guys at once in the movies. Do you think there is any basis in reality for those things? My point is impossible things happen all the time in movies and on TV. Why do you only complain when it's a woman doing the impossible? I've seen many fictional male characters beat up bad guys that were much bigger than them, what's the big deal? No one thinks it's real.

Not according to Jody or her many supporting minions. The lesson here is that if a woman suddenly becomes brunette, wears frumpy eyeglasses, dresses like a librarian and wears sensible shoes she cannot be a murderess.

What I'm hearing, and mind you we are talking science fiction, is that Alara has a believable backstory but Michael Bernham does not. I have not seen STD and I may be in love with Alara so my judgment may be clouded on this.

Michael was supposedly taught Vulcan martial arts, but not sure if that's a sufficient explanation.

Anyways, like others have stated- men are also always shown doing unbelievable/unlikely/far-fetched things in movies and shows, so why is it a problem if women are shown that same way?
