More Original Trek for sure. Including the later series and movies. Discovery might fit more with the "reboot" movies, in terms of style but not timeline - but there's a reason I don't like those either.
I guess it depends what you think Star Trek was about. If you thought Star Trek was about exploring social and ethical issues through the lens of sci-fi, while presenting a hopeful future for mankind. Then it is closer to real trek. If you thought Star Trek was about Narcissistic A$$hole bickering in space with explosions. Then your probably think Discovery is. But only one is right.

That seems like a pretty accurate description of the "reboot" movies too. Which could explain why people who may have only seen those movies, might think Discovery is "valid."
I don't know why people waste money on CBS Access to watch STD when they can watch The Orville for free.
Have you ever known any STD that wasn't costly in one form or another? [/rimshot]
This is a dramedy for sure, but so were many other shows we don't generally characterize as such. MASH was a comedy show that had just as many dead serious and intense scenes as funny ones. The Orville scenes where Kelly is tortured for info or Claire knifes the alien who kidnapped were played straight and very tense. I was afraid The Orville was going to be along the theme of Angie Tribecca, but this is a serious if light hearted SciFi show, much as TOS was.
The topic/question was poorly worded. It should be something like "Anyone else thinking that The Orville is more like (original) "Star Trek" than Discovery is (like original Star Trek)?"
i.e., is The Orville a more worthy successor to Star Trek, than Discovery is? Does The Orville have more of a Star Trek feel, than Discovery does?
The question is not whether The Orville is more like (original) Star Trek, or more like Discovery. But the way it's worded it's easy to get that meaning from it, especially if English proficiency isn't a top skill.
Excellent distinction Knixon. Star Trek has been many things over it's evolution. IMO, there's even a line of demarcation between the first season of TOS and the next two. There's a lot more camp in the second and third seasons and while I think the humor in The Orville is sharper and more obvious than any TOS episodes, I think The Orville is far closer to TOS than Discover is.
What amazes me is that even my wife enjoys this.

I know I do.
And as far as the humor goes, have people ever watched TOS? It was filled with one liners and situational jokes.

Much closer to the spirit of the original Star Trek than Discovery is.

Watching Discovery is free too. Lots of places to find it online.
Although watching for free in Discovery's case, the adage "you get what you pay for" seems to be in full effect.

For me, it is what it is. The Orville.

Not at all. The Orville has similarities with Star Trek rather than Discovery. If you're in India, you can watch The Orville legally on Hotstar!
