Discuss The Orville

TNG had the episode WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS? where the Federation explorers were mistaken for gods because of their technology.

Voyager had an episode -- I forget the name -- where the starship got stuck above a time-warping planet and played a role in its history.

Frankly this episode was like if Picard only had 30 minutes to convince everyone that he wasn't a god in Who Watches the Watchers.

"Mad Idolatry" also irritated me in another way. Supposedly the "religion" was based only on seeing the Earth visitor do a "miracle", yet when the Orville crew visits the headquarters, it has stained-glass windows and the high priest is even wearing a papal tiara! Where would the aliens have thought of those? The writers' imagery on religion was so stereotyped.

Actually the COSTUME was irrelevant. Nobody saw her in the Orville uniform but the little girl. Did she draw it? Describe it? How did they get the image so well?

I stand corrected about their seeing her uniform; I hadn't gone back to check my memory of what happened.

The writers could have avoided the possibility of an imposter by creating some visible anatomical difference between the humans and aliens -- like the "Vulcan ears" or the "Bajoran nose".
