"The 'Battle of Earth' continues between several ships of the Planetary Union and multiple Kaylon spheres. The USS Orville is heavily damaged and Marcus is running to his quarters. There he is confronted by Isaac, whose head opens to reveal monstrous teeth. Then Marcus wakes up: it was all a nightmare."

"Isaac is hated and shunned by the crew of the USS Orville. When he sits at a table in the Mess Hall, the others leave, and Charly Burke blames him for the death of her best friend Amanda. 'MURDERER'."

Charly: "It really is a shame that you can’t feel anything. Because you deserve to feel all the pain in the universe."

Kelly: "You’ve been getting harassed by the crew and you haven’t said anything?"

Isaac: "I would remind you, Commander, that I am incapable of being hurt by such hostile interactions. In fact, it has provided me with an opportunity to observe an intriguing facet of human compartment I have not previously encountered."

Ed: "Hatred."

Isaac: "Correct, sir. The behavioral data has been quite plentiful."

"As the working environment between Isaac and the crew deteriorates, he comes to the conclusion that there is only one solution to reverse this trend and increase the crew's efficiency. He overloads and shuts himself down."

"Charly refuses to help save him and is removed from her post. There are mixed feelings among the crew, with some rejoicing at his 'death' and others defending him because of his help against the Kaylon. Claire, who was romantically involved with him, is having a hard time and her son Marcus feels responsible for not wanting anything to do with him anymore."

"Marcus convinces Charly to use her talents to help bring back Isaac. She does this for him, not for this Kaylon whose kind killed so many people, including Amanda."

"In the end, Claire has a long talk with Isaac to discuss his suicide and how to understand and deal with the issues he has with the crew."

Side notes

At the beginning of the episode there is a title card with a dedication - "In Memory of Norm MacDonald, 1959-2021" - to Norm MacDonald, who passed away in September 2021. He was the voice of Gelatin Lieutenant Yaphit.

"To so many people in comedy, me included, there was nobody funnier than Norm MacDonald. You always hoped he would hang around after the work was done, just so you could hear his stories and get a laugh. So hilarious and so generous with his personality. I’m gonna miss him."

Now this is more like it!

From the get-go, The Orville's return is Star Trek through and through. The characters, the storytelling, the moral conflicts, the hope for the future.

If only the Kurtzman generic space show apologists had the capacity to understand the crucial difference between genuine Star Trek and their favorite brand of corporate product, they'd see a worthwhile start to season III.

Where Kurtzman and his "writers" failed time and again with Burnham throughout multiple seasons, here in just 1 single episode, Charly Burke comes out of nowhere and hits the ground running.

Very excited to see where the rest of the episodes and the characters go after this promising start

If you're interested in a possible renewal for season 4, then there is a petition now for this. It needs to get at least 2,500 signatures to be noticed by the local news.

Yes, very interested. Do you perhaps have a link to that?

Petition Renew The Orville Season 4!

Three & a half years since the end of the second season. Had to rewatch the last two of that season (still didn't really help). I wasn't impressed by the first two episodes of this 'new season' (Electric Sheep & Strange Realms), SR reminded me of Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1, plus a few others. Also, the 'Star Wars' type music was overwhelming in almost every scene. I will watch a couple of more episodes but I'm not hopeful.

And here is a bit of news, Seth is dating Ms. Winters (Burke). How long will she last on the show? Or will she be a casualty like Halston Sage?
