The Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana, fight ruthlessly to keep their land from the neighboring Indian reservation and the new chief seeking to reclaim it.

As Kayce feels the heat from tribal police, Jamie works some legal magic. Rip recruits a new cowboy for the ranch, and a beaten-down Jimmy begins to find some respect. John makes a play to keep Kayce and Monica close to home.

Kayce settles into his new role at the ranch. A damaging article threatens to expose John. Rainwater pitches his new plan to the tribal council.

Kayce and Rip come to blows. Beth starts buying up land to protect the ranch. Monica begins a new chapter at the university.

John makes a deal with Governor Perry, Beth is uneasy about a hospitality company's presence near the ranch, Monica asks for a favor, and Jamie gets a new opportunity.

The Duttons open camp, which proves to be the best therapy for Tate. Jamie and Hendon agree to teach a lesson to two criminals, but it does not go as intended. Beth learns more about Roarke's business plans. Teeter joins the bunkhouse.

Jimmy gets help with his recovery, Thomas Rainwater obtains an ally, Beth takes advantage of an opportunity, Gov. Perry talks to Kayce, and uninvited guests visit Yellowstone.

The Yellowstone recovers and begins planning revenge. Rainwater receives an offer from a newcomer. Rip gets a surprise.

John and Kayce are forced to deal with some newcomers in town; Lloyd is in the doghouse with Rip, and finds purpose in teaching Carter; Jamie seeks information about his father.
