I don't understand how somebody could serve that long without ever having been found guilty of anything. Anybody able to explain?

Couldn't come up with the $500K to make bail?
Just finished the series:
1) Enjoyed it quite a bit.
2) The reap-what-you-sow aspect was outstandingly done.
3) The "leopard changing its spot” scene near the end that caused police shift in another direction was kind of weak. (It didn't quite ring true.)
4)The acting was outstanding. Nothing but kudos—especially for the brother, the sister-in-law, and the weaselly best friend.

The whole whether someone stays-behind-bars-or-not process turns out to be a lot more complicated (detailed) than I imagine .
