What do you think they'll do when they find out?

(I mean Invidia, et al.)

Find out what?

That male-butt-kicking Dahj is an android.

I can "hear" Invidia now. "Well, the CONCEPT of a strong female is still valid, even though the male-butt-kicking female wasn't really female at all."

blah blah blah.

"In fact it's even BETTER that Dahj is an android, because androids have been outlawed in the future, which means Dahj is illegal, and Trump hates illegals..."

Oh that! Well Romulan Ale was once illegal and that didn't prevent anyone in The Federation from drinking it. 😆

But I guess that is what I meant with the political message in new Trek being as subtle as a sledgehammer just like the fact that Cmdr. Maddox is now turned into a Frankenstein/ Mengele monster and another not to subtle 9/11 reference with the attack on the Mars shipyards. How can Mars actually be burning ?there is no oxygen there and the shipyards are in space orbit didn't the writers of STP do their homework?h(don't answer that is a rhetorical question)And a world gone paranoid about androids(or Muslims in the case of 9/11).But hey the writers at CBS are still thinking let's turn Star Trek and The Federation in this violent gloomy conflict ridden egocentric and xenophobic(which are the direct oposite of it's founding principles)dystopia inhabited by psychopathic assholes because yeah reBSG was so popular with it like 17 years ago. rofl

And a nice article that actually proves that most of STD and the season 2 plot are a direct rip off from various sources(the game Tardigrades but also season 3 of The Expanse to name a few.)

"The rights of sentient artificial lifeforms were clearly defined in TNG's The Measure Of A Man"

Please don't talk about levels of understanding when you have NONE of ST. If the rights of sentient artificial lifeforms "were clearly defined" how come there is now a inter-galactic ban on them, imposed by organics? Can you imagine a ban on Russia and all new Russians being born because they invaded the Ukraine? Why then should ALL new "Synths" suffer for the 'wrongdoings' of some rebels. These are the questions Picard (the show) is going to examine. Besides never before have we seen flesh and blood, sentient artificial life forms. Get with the picture. THIS is entirely NEW in ST, but it is possibly something mankind will face in the future.

"One hasn't written anything about Dahj's physical abilities at all"

Yes, you and Knixon have resisted your urges to RACISM and SEXISM. I happily take credit for helping you curb those negative instincts. I will continue to warn you when they might appear in the future. You MIGHT eventually be able to view ST as normal human beings!!!!! Consider that paragraph a PRE-EMPTIVE shot across the bow!

Hi xxpo,

Sorry you remain on PERMANENT IGNORE, you know why...nothing has changed! Appreciate your indirect attempt to draw me in but nothing has changed! Talk to you in another decade!

Some people never understood why I avoided ReBG just because a couple genders were randomly flipped, the ships were made filthy and all the characters psychotic, and while such things were supposedly what they cared about MOST, nobody seemed to care that the two main black characters from the original series - Tighe and Boomer - became an old white guy and an Asian chick. So even by their own rule book it was "unjust" and/or "culturally appropriating" or whatever.

I also found it rather boring.

Picard on The Measure Of A Man;(NOTE he talks about the rights that ALL SENTIENT BEINGS have ergo Data falls under this category as his plea clearly argues that Data is a sentient being and therefore has these same rights, also note Picard refers to Data as he while Maddox refers to Data as it)

About why as you rightly argue would all synthetics be banned by the Federation on the basis that some of them attacked the shipyards on Mars?I actually agree with you but for different reasons not because The Federation has now suddenly become xenophobic/androidphobic but because the writers clearly have no clue what Star Trek is about and the basic foundations on which The Federation was founded to even come up with that preposterous idea in the first place so don't blame me but blame the writers of STP for not having done their homework .And no the idea that this concept is entirely new is not true either.To illustrate this;

As a matter of fact the people on the original BSG were actually more enlightened than those on the reboot in the reboot there were clear indications there was class discrimination if you weren't born on certain colonies like for example Caprica then you could never apply to certain positions like viper pilot or officer on the colonial fleet or become a minister on the colonial council or president of the colonies, which was something people like Tom Zarek(Richard Hatch) revolted against.

The "Measure Of A Man" episode was pretty ridiculous when you look at it closely. Perhaps the most ridiculous part was Picard talking about making this decision "for all time." No little outpost part-time JAG makes law "for all time" especially when the two "lawyers" - Picard and Riker - aren't really lawyers at all. In "the real world" that decision was immediately appealed and likely overturned by someone higher-up.

Also, so much of not only that episode but most others, already assume that Data is sentient and gives it/him behavior that supports not only that, but also that Data alreasy supposedly has emotions even though we're told over and over that he doesn't, at least until the Generations movie. (And of course, his "emotions" then are just as unhuman as the rest of "him:" just more subroutines on a chip.) My argument is that if Data actually behaved the way it SHOULD based on everything we're told about it/him not having emotions etc, I don't think anyone either on the show or in the viewing audience would have any illusions about Data being "alive" or "sentient." Arguably the main flaw is that Data was portrayed, of course, by a PERSON. An actual robot would, I suspect, behave quite differently.

What it amounted to was, "That HUMAN BEING sitting there wearing body paint and weird contact lenses, is alive and sentient." Well, duh!

But Spock and other Vulcans didn't LACK emotions, they just CONTROLLED them. In many ways Data did act the same way but that was wrong, because Data - so we were told, repeatedly - had no emotions to control. Part of the problem with Data appearing - at least to some - as "alive" and "sentient" - is that, again probably mostly from bad writing and/or Because Plot, Data repeatedly behaved in ways contrary to what the character was explicitly supposed to be.

No spear doesn't have point because as was indicated Data has the same rights as all sentient beings Picard won that case remember!?And why in STP we now have a ban on synthetics is because of the writers who wanted the Federation to represent a Trumplike/Brexit like foe which is their fault not the fault of the original series or us posting here.Because turning The Federation into a xenophobic isiolationist society(remember the Klingons in STD) is not only a major canon violation that Roddenberry certainly would not aprove of since again and again The Federation in previous shows had always been open and reaching out to alien species to join the Federation or to at least have some agreements with The Federation an attack on the Mars shipyards(like a 9/11)is just a lame excuse of the writers to turn The Federation into the bad guys.Did The Federation become isolationist or xenophobic after the attack on Earth by Dominion shapeshifters?Well they tried(Shapeshifter infiltrators and Section31) but cooler minds prevailed even after Betazed was conquered by the Dominion The Federation didn't change it's core principles. So why this now all changed is largely the fault of the writers because they don't understand Star Trek and want to turn it into this reBSG/Firefly/Blade Runner/ westworld / The Expanse kind of show because the writers have no spark of originality in them and think that this dark gloomy depressing SF is the norm while it actually is outdated. Also they think it is their task to let good uplifting storytelling to be subservient to perverting something good into something evil so they can lecture(or should I say indoctrinate)the viewers with their very obvious and biased political allegories of the current political climate .And to some it may not be obvious now but after episode three it will become clear this is just another Kurtzman manifesto.

And thank you for mentioning things about the Mormon faith and the original BSG but I know all this very well since I have both the old and new BSG in their entirety on DVD and those things were thoroughly discussed in the making of documentaries. All I did was mention that unlike in the original the remake indicate not only this religious influence but also a separation of class where only people from colonies like Caprica can aspire to the better functions which was something Tom Zarek were rebelling against. It was meant to illustrate that if you wan't create antagonism into a series one can do so by bringing in new and original elements without it necessarily disrespecting it's origins.

Yes we know Trump and Brexit are bad because most of the mass media make it perfectly clear every goddamn minute of the day but can we at least have a franchise that is not infested with the political divisions that now plague us can we have a franchise that has been known to take a more neutral stance on subject manners that respects both sides of the conflict to stay free of this vile biased lecturing of predominantly rich extremist liberal indoctrination. Also if Hollywood keeps on doing this it will only result in the Orange man getting more support and getting reelected which I assume is not the aim of this constant lecturing. And no I am not a Republican right wing Trump supporter I am actually a very liberal socialist and have been for most of my life but now it seems things have gone too extreme that it is starting to look more like fascism and propaganda than any kind of moderate respectful discussions where parties can agree to disagree on certain issues whitout immediately resorting to insults or name calling.

What has all this stuff about the Mormons and Joseph Smith have to do with what I was trying to point out about there being an additional theme in the remake? And as far as I can tell the propaganda from the right mostly comes from FOX almost all the other media outlets and a large chunk of Hollywood and entertainments industry are anti Trump. And we in Europe are not interested in that stuff since we get a fair share of that shit in our media as well.

But in stead of focussing on All the political stuff we should focus on the show itself and it is lacking and predictable.

Nexus YOU are the one that doesn't understand ST or the arguments the PIC producers are making. Here's the lesson you need.:

ST although a show about the FUTURE has ALWAYS REALLY been about the PRESENT!! Even in TOS, even with the aliens they showed, they were ALWAYS concerned about the current problems and the issues plaguing of mankind, here on Earth. The fact that humans and other alien beings formed a Federation of Planets to deal with intergalactic issues as ONE reflected the issues going on with the UN and detente between the US and the USSR.

60 years on the same is true. The Synths (Sentient, artificial lifeforms) appear to be the ones under attack now is just a symbol for the 'other' in our current circumstances. For example: Some Muslims blow up a church and ALL Muslims are BANNED. That's the general connection they are making. The minutiae of the issues DO NOT matter. In all of ST Data was the ONLY sentient, artificial life form, no family, no chance to propagate. As such Data's rights were only occasionally threatened. The difference now is two fold. One there are now multitudes of artificial lifeforms, so their communal rights have become an issue and two they are now virtually indistinguishable from organic life forms; Dahj and her twin are flesh and blood artificial beings who don't even know they are artificial! This would make their continued 'enslavement' or 'subjugation' more difficult.

As such, they will aptly represent how some current thinking( like those inherent in Knixon's MISCEGENATION philosophy) are detrimental to the VALUES of ST. I told you you were not going to like the show. Go watch TO instead. I also suggested you all watch the British show "Humans"It really quite good , so is the Dutch one. Both shows deal with how these "Synths" are initially enslaved, used for manual labor ; sex etc ; there is one in every middle class home and THEN because of some code, they gradually become sentient. Of course a huge battle ensues between the sentient synths and humans who want to continue to enslave then and THEY , like the Synths who attacked Mars perhaps, fight for their Freedom. Too many issues to go into here but essentially that is the HISTORY of ALL enslaved or oppressed people of the Earth, even so TODAY.

You know Nexus you can tell us who you are til the cows come home but your WORDS speak for themselves, don't forget that. Go watch the Orville instead. You clearly wouldn't understand but PIC, dear fellow, is the very ESSENCE of Star Trek!!!!!
