Granted, it was far from perfect, but due to some very good performances by Gary Sinise, Ray Walston and others , plus a script that was very faithful to the original novel, (my favorite King book by far) it is easily one of my all-time favorite DVD's.

Yes, I agree. The changes they made (i.e., merging Nadine and Rita into just Nadine) didn't make enough of a difference to distract from the plot. I still watch it when I come across it and always enjoy.
What are your opinions on the other Stephen King miniseries?

Salem's Lot (both versions) were good, although not particularly faithful to the source novel, It was good, so was Bag of Bones, Dreamcatchers and The Dark Half.
In general I liked the film adaptations of King, but there are exceptions. ONe was that I did not especially care for The Shining, especially the Kubrick version (please, no axes and pitchforks!). Some people get very angry when I say that, believe it or not. For some reason, the story just did not appeal to me.
However, The Stand was by far my favorite King book and film. As an aside, I have all three editions of the book. The only thing of The Stand that I don't have are the comic books. I hear that they are faithful to the novel to a fault. I am going to look for them, BTW.
My niece is getting married in the place where they filmed Rose Red. That film seemed to be a mixture of The Haunting of Hill House and the Winchester Mansion.

That's a very cool venue for your niece's wedding. Are she and her fiance SK fans, too?
I liked the miniseries version of the Shining, but was not impressed with the Kubrick version. Just didn't do it for me.
Haven't seen Salem's Lot in years, so I guess it was, IMO, okay but nothing special.
Dreamcatcher, The Dark Half -- very well done and pretty close to the novels.
Bag of Bones has always been one of my favorite novels, and I was happy with the miniseries. I was concerned that they'd play around with it too much but very good job. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the age of Kyra. I guess it wasn't feasible to get a 2 or 3 year old for the part, but she seemed around 10 or so. Oh well, I still felt it was good.
Have you seen 11/22/63? We don't have Hulu so I didn't see it, but from what I heard, it strayed quite a bit from the novel. Since I'm (I guess) one of the minority who really liked the book, I figured I'd give it a pass.

To be honest, it's been a while since I've seen my niece as I live very far away from her, so I can't really answer that.
Dreamcatchers, TDH and BOB were close enough to the books that I didn't have any reason to complain.
I have seen and read 11.22.63, and liked both of them The mini-series is close to the book, except that it takes place in 1960-63 rather than the book's 1958-63, Bill Turcotte is given a much larger role in the film than he is in the book, and some parts of it take place in Kentucky rather than Derry, Maine. Other than than, it is pretty close to the book. If you want your film adaptations to follow the book, then, 11.22.63 does it fairly well.
I take it that you have read The Stand. In case you are interested, there is a group on facebook on The Stand. If you are signed in, I can give you the link.
