I recently rewatched this, and as a fan of the first three movies, this "reboot" was pretty good. It's more a real horror movie, a different approach. I like both , but nothing can beat Ash.

I really disliked it at the cinema but I gave it another go when I found the DVD for a quid the other week and really enjoyed it! It's still annoying how the necronomicon is treated as a picture book of what happens next and there's a bit too much emo going on but it has a great atmosphere and crazy demonic madness.

I thought it was good. Not as good as the first two Evil Dead films, but I did like it better than Army of Darkness.

Just rewatched it, this time with my 2 teens...they liked it. This is roughly my 4th time seeing it and its still well directed, intense and scary at times. I won't say its "better" then the original trilogy of movies, but, like Ash vs Evil Dead show and, to a lesser degree, Drag Me To Hell, it compliments the ED series.
The Blu Ray also has PHENOMENAL sound.

I like how it pays respects to the original and has Bruce for a small role. It was cool to add killing demons by fire. It made sense and made them unstoppable otherwise.

I agree that it's got a welcome different approach, and Jessica Lucas is eye candy. I do prefer Sam Raimi's first two films to it.

If demonic possession was real, this movie would be an excellent case study. I thought the images were very disturbing.

I liked it better on my second viewing also. The Sam Raimi movies are a lot better but this is good as a stand-alone straight up horror film
