田村正和演じる浪人が、かつて愛した女性と再会したことにより、忠臣蔵という大事件の渦に巻き込まれる時代劇スペシャルドラマ。訳あって船宿の居候兼用心棒をしている浪人・慶之助は、旧知の安兵衛と偶然再会。安兵衛は赤穂藩主・浅野内匠頭に仕官していると話す。一方慶之助と結婚の約束をしながら、5年前に姿を消していた志保が謝罪に訪れる。志保は海産物問屋・成田屋の妻になっていた。間もなく浅野内匠頭が吉良上野介に斬りつける事件が起きる。
