Sherri not realizing it was Big Momma's stuff

I was a bit shocked at Sherri pulling out the g-string from the big box under the bed and not thinking that it was old items from when Malcolm was playing out Big Mama. Just thought it was a wasted scene where she took that same panties to her girlfriend and asked if he could be cheating on her.
Was it explained at beginning of movie that he threw out those items or what?

She SHOULD have known, especially after the events of the last movie.
In thes scene when she looked at it and said: "what??!" At first, I thought she knew that it was from Big Momma's stuff and was simply wondering why it was still there or something.
Then whe she brought it over to her friend because she thought her husband was having an affair and it turned out that she didn't know what it was (ie from big momma). I thought that was rather dumb.
