Industry professionals Martin Scorsese and Neve Campbell both place this in their 'scariest films' lists. It boasts a solid performance by George C. Scott -- in the best film I've seen by him. His acting in Patton was quite good, but the film itself left me cold. Here, Scott is just great. Highly recommended.

A very well made ghost story with great atmosphere. I wish they made more films like this today.

I was recommended this movie by a friend and loved it. Youtube has it up and it's on equal pair with the shinning to me.

I thought it was good, but not really scary. Though I guess I've never really found ghost/haunted house movies to be all that scary.

I liked the fact it was creepy without being a full blown horror. The ghost wanted to use people to find 'justice' rather than being malevolent to everyone. Getting a serious actor like Scott definitely helped, but it fell quite short of greatness in my opinion.
I think it was a little incoherent in that the ghost knew all about things that happened in another continent long after its death and the reappearing ball was a bit daft (and yes, I know there is no such things as ghosts so I shouldn't expect 'rules', but it doesn't hurt to try and maintain some credibility). Plus getting chased by an empty undersized wheelchair made me laugh unintentionally.
