It is long, but one movie that is completely worth the time. Biggest complaint is probably the miscast of orlando bloom. he has grown on me in the lead role, but that speech at the end is still cringeworthy.
I think one of the best scenes I have ever seen was when Brendan Gleeson s character Reynald de Chatillon is set loose to kill the sister of the arab leader to spark a war. They cut off the head of one of the soldiers and Gleeson s character says to himself "I am what I am, someone has to be"
seemingly simple line, but in reality, extremely powerful and it fully embodies who his character is and how he thinks.
great fucking movie.

In addition, the director's cut manages to show the character of Balian in a more nuanced way. That he has already been on a crusade, that he has served as a soldier, that he has at least a rudimentary understanding of strategy, military tactics and warfare. In the cinema version, Balian comes out of the box like Kai (German saying). He is actually a simple blacksmith from some small province in France and suddenly he becomes the son of a prince and heir to a fief in Israel. Suddenly he can read, write, understands farming and land surveying, can sword fight and the like. The director's cut makes it a little nicer, although not more historically accurate.
