Rewatched it on Ultra HD last night. Enjoyed it all over again like it was new. There's still quite a bit of film grain so it looks like a 90s movie.
Things that nag me a bit. The crew of RO have a hodgepodge of accents. Some are doing Russian other British and, well a Scot. Alec Baldwin was just perfect as Jack Ryan. How he didn't get to do a series of Ryan movies still annoys me. Gates McFadden is in it! One of the three women in the film. She has one line. And she's British? Why? The rest of the movie is men. If the movie was made today you'd have (guessing) someone like Anne Bancroft in the Richard Jordan role. Speaking of Jordan. He's fantastic in it. His meetings with Dimitri Joss Ackland are so good. When he starts eating jellybeans when he knows he has the upper hand? Brilliant. Scott Glenn and Courtney B. Vance seem to be closest to the book characters. Daniel Davis (another Star Trek Next Generation fav) is Glenn's Number 1. He's not British. Who knew?
The movie moves at a pretty good clip. I was reading about the plot holes on another thread and I seem to remember the book fleshed all that out and made more sense.
And subs can't turn on a dime.
But hey! Hell of a fun rewatch.
