I could never understand that part. Mark bought the debt of his sister and brother in-law's farm, just so he could foreclose because they didn't want to sell. . He said he loved his sister, why would he do that to her..

If the Kinsellas were to default on loans to the bank, the resulting auction would yield pennies on the dollar, and the family would have to vacate the property. Buying the debt means that the farm might remain in the family, though now the Kinsellas would essentially be share croppers. However, movie magic has rubbed off on reality, and the farm has become as iconic as "the voice" said it would be.;)
