A moose has been spotted on the Elbe. It has strayed into Germany from the far north. Two city boys are after the animal. One of them just wants to photograph the moose, the other wants to kill it. Without knowing about each other at first, they travel all over Germany in pursuit of the moose. At some point they meet and, realizing that the moose is hopelessly at the mercy of an unknown world, the two tentatively become friends. Finally, after the animal has strayed as far as the highway and Frankfurt airport, they decide to give the animal the coup de grace...

Man glaubt es nicht, aber an der Elbe wird ein Elch beobachtet. Hoch aus dem Norden hat er sich nach Deutschland verirrt. Zwei Großstadtjungen sind hinter dem Tier her. Einer der beiden will den Elch nur fotografieren, der andere will ihn töten. Ohne vorerst voneinander zu wissen, reisen sie dem Elch durch ganz Deutschland hinterher. Irgendwann treffen sie aufeinander und merken, daß der Elch hoffnungslos der ihm unbekannten Welt ausgeliefert ist, freunden sich die beiden zaghaft an. Schließlich, nachdem sich das Tier bis in Richtung Autobahn und Flughafen Frankfurt verirrt hat, beschließen sie, dem Tier den Gnadenschuß zu geben...
