Ana se po boku své matky Marie Rosy účastní boje za záchranu protifrankistických bojovníků před trestem smrti během procesu v Burgosu. Anina matka je bývalá herečka a Ana, její matka a několik dalších herců připravují protestní akci v divadle, kde se koná mezinárodní festival o Strinbergovi. V Anině životě se však dějí i další věci. Matka žije se strýcem, bratrem svého otce Normana, starým lékařem s prohnanými metodami. S pomocí Fatimy, staré zdravotní sestry, která miluje svého otce, se lékař pokusí experimentovat i s Aninými myšlenkami a pocity.

La acción trascurre durante el proceso de Burgos. Ana, que trabaja en el Comité por la liberación de unos presuntos terroristas, condenados a muerte, sufre un desmayo. Su tío Norman, antiguo médico a quien retiraron la licencia por contrabando de medicamentos, le ofrece un remedio que puede ayudar a su enfermedad cerebral, pero le advierte que puede tener consecuencias: produce tal desinhibición que el paciente se sitúa más allá del mal y del bien, de la ética y de las convicciones.
