George Lucas had originally wanted to do a Flash gordon movie but because he couldn't get the rights for that is why he eventually made star wars which heavily burrows from Flash Gordon /John Carter Lucas originally imagined Star Wars to be the 70's version of the 40's /50's Saturday afternoon movie matinee
