林青霞飾演純真率性的段宛露，小時候夢想成為一片雲，青梅竹馬的友嵐（秦漢）對她一往情深， 她卻傾情於記者孟樵（秦祥林），陷入糾纏不清的三角關係。她被孟樵母親嫌棄，其後更發現了自己的身世真相。

　　段宛露（林青霞 饰）和顾友岚（秦汉 饰）是从小一同长大的青梅竹马，两人之间的感情十分要好。孟樵（秦祥林 饰）的出现改变了段宛露和顾友岚之间水到渠成的关系，眼见孟樵的英俊和潇洒，段宛露不仅心神荡漾。顾友岚将段宛露的改变全都看在了眼里，心痛之余，他依旧深深的爱着段宛露。

　　一次意外中，段宛露的真实身世浮出了水面，她原来是一个舞女的孩子，一时间，段宛露的身价大跌，在谩骂和非议中，她和孟樵之间的感情也走到了尽头。最终，段宛露嫁给了顾友岚，可是没过多久，顾友岚就在一次事故中丧生了。年纪轻轻就成为了寡妇，受不了婆家人的排挤和欺辱，段宛露的精神崩溃了。
