OK, so obviously the filmmaker intended the ending to be profound, if not confusing. But what the heck, let's talk about it anyway: what are your thoughts? Why did the gun go off? Where/when do we see him at the mall? How is his mother's grief assuaged? I'm asking because I just don't know! :)

I liked Tye Sheridan's performance but it was a pretty flat film. In answer to your questions; the gun went off because he shot one of the top screens with Andrea's camera still picture. Understandably because he was upset by her betrayal. He had left his room just before the police got there and presumably went to the mall (which is where we see him at the end).
