Misadventures of Colombo, an engineer in Milano. He is the only winner of an admission test for a job, and just for this reason he isn't hired. So he becomes a barman, and he discovers a special formula that turns simple water into the "Immortality drink". He is robbed of the magic water copyright. So he tries to set up a theatrical company, but the first show is a fiasco. Since finding a normal job seems a mission impossible, he tries to set the sentimental side of his life. He targets the most beautiful girl of his building, and for her he builds a robot able to dance like Tony Manero (John Travolta's character in Saturday Night Fever (1977)). The robot gets drunk (!). It is another fiasco. So he targets an ugly girl and finally with her succeeds to live his surreal world for ever.

Ce film qui a connu un grand succès à sa sortie en Italie se présente plus comme une suite de sketches burlesques (et quasiment sans dialogues) autour du personnage interprété par Nichetti. C'est drôle, parfois satirique, et le ton est original. Originalité qu'on retrouvera d'ailleurs dans les films de Nichetti diffusés en France : l'Amour avec des gants et le Voleur de savonnettes. Depuis, plus grand chose (du moins en France), dommage...

Nichetti a Ratataplanban a burleszk gyökereihez tér vissza. Humora alapvetően vizuális jellegű, gyakran a mozgásokból és a szituációkból fakad. "Nichetti Ratataplanja filozofikus, büszke és szabadgondolkodású mű, mint minden igazi burleszk. Olyan ritka film ez, amelyet az első perctől az utolsóig végignevetünk. S csak amikor már kijöttünk kacagástól fájó hassal a moziból, döbbenünk rá, hogy ebben az egészben bizony semmi nevetséges nincs."

Neolaureato in ingegneria, durante un concorso redige l'unico test valido e perciò non viene assunto. Altre surrealistiche e poetiche avventure coinvolgono il giovane quando si dà da fare come barista. Poi fa fiasco nello spettacolo e corteggia maldestramente un paio di signorine...
