There is maybe far too much method acting. For a comedy ( with some very wrongheaded left-wing dramatic overtones) that sure feels a little wrong in some ways. A more mechanical actor like Roger Bowen ( playing Henry Blake) seems a relief a little.
Another thing. This was the about first modern-type comedy. There is a drive in Hollywood now to bring back fun type of movies like this. To stop making overly sensitive movies where the writers are too terrified of offending anyone. Although the 1998 film Mr. Magoo ( starting Leslie Nielson)has zilch to do with Mash here it would be a good idea to make films like Mash but do a written explanation of how the film is not meant to offend like Magoo did with blind people. A movie made like Mash today would not be as well done at all as Mash was entertainment -wise but we would give the filmmakers points for trying to be fun. See my other postings in Mash movie and series!
