小小独角兽是一只从天界坠落的小独角兽。在与北风精灵一同旅行的途中，他与会说话的树木少年翼相遇了。由于人类过度使用资源、破坏环境，地球变成了一个无法居住的荒芜星球，无论是人类还是其他生物，都无法生存。为此，小小独角兽和翼一同踏上征程，去寻找让地球重焕新生的方法。在经历了一番艰辛的旅程后，他们终于遇见了斯芬克斯和时间精灵。他们借助斯芬克斯和时间精灵的力量回到了曾经的地球，决心拯救那些误入歧途的人类。然而，在过去的时间里，他们仅能停留5分钟。在如此短暂的时间内，他们是否能够改变地球的未来呢？小小独角兽和翼鼓足勇气，展开了他们的英勇行动，试图改变历史，为地球带来绿色的新生。 位于京都车站大厦内的手塚治虫世界（已于2011年1月16日关闭）设有一个名为“300英寸剧场”的影院，而本作品正是在这个影院上映的原创短篇动画。这部作品采用了两部分并行的结构：一部分是融入了手塚漫画代表作品精髓的动画作品，另一部分是以动画形式讲述与京都相关的历史故事。作为故事讲述者的火之鸟则把这两部分连接起来，形成一部完整的作品。这部作品是手塚治虫动画剧场原创动画中的第4段，为纪念剧场开业一周年而制作。它以手塚治虫先生留下的信息《拯救玻璃地球》为主题，创作了一部以独角兽小小独角兽为主角的全新原创故事。

This is the fourth original animated piece for the Tezuka Osamu Animation theatre that takes up Tezuka Osamu's message of "Saving our Fragile Earth" as its theme, and together with Unico's adventures commemorates the theatre's first anniversary. Unico, a unicorn's child, has dropped down from heaven. During his journey on the north wind, he meets Tsubasa, a tree boy who can speak. The Earth has become totally ruined to the extent that no creature can live there, because humans have drained it of all resources and destroyed the environment. Unico and Tsubasa go on a journey to find a way to make the Earth inhabitable again. They finally meet the Sphinx and the "time fairy" at the end of their hard journey. They decide to go back to the past and prevent humans from taking the wrong path. However, they can stay in the past for only five minutes. Will they be able to alter the future of the Earth in such short time? Their adventures to restore the Earth begin...

天界からこぼれ落ちたユニコーンの子供、ユニコ。北風とともに旅する途中で、言葉をしゃべる木の少年、翼と出会います。地球は、人間が資源を使い果たし、自然を破壊したために、人間はもちろん、生き物の住めない荒れ果てた星になってしまいました。ユニコと翼は、地球を生き物の住める星に戻す方法を探すために、一緒に旅へ出ます。苦しい旅の果てにであったスフィンクスと時の妖精。彼らの力をかりて過去の地球へ行き、間違った道へ進もうとする人間達を救うことにしました。でも、過去へ戻れる時間は、たった5分。そんなわずかな時間で、地球の未来を変えることが出来るのでしょうか。ユニコと翼の大活躍が始まります。もう一度、地球を緑あふれる世界に戻すために。

Único, el hijo de un unicornio, ha caído del cielo. Durante su viaje por los vientos del norte, conoce a Tsubasa, un niño árbol que puede hablar. La Tierra está casi devastada hasta el punto de que ninguna criatura puede vivir allí, porque los humanos han agotado todos sus recursos y han destruido el medio ambiente. Único y Tsubasa emprenden un viaje para encontrar la forma de hacer que la Tierra vuelva a ser habitable. Al final de su duro viaje, se encuentran con la Esfinge y el "hada del tiempo" y deciden volver al pasado y evitar que los humanos tomen el camino equivocado. Sin embargo, pueden permanecer en el pasado solo durante cinco minutos. ¿Podrán alterar el futuro de la Tierra en tan poco tiempo? Sus aventuras para revivir al planeta comienzan...
