Discuss Twisters

I guess biggest achievement of this movie is to pretend like it is a disaster movie, while being a romantic comedy. Nothing in this movie is original, all the familiar tropes and cliches of the romantic comedy are on the full display here. The characters are archetypes of the romcom genre, the plot is predictable from the start to finish, all the mandatory romcom scenes and plot devices are here is well. From the young woman that returns from a big city to her rural home, to the dinner with the love interest and her mother/father/parents. It would probably be possible to construct the exact same movie by taking bunch of romcoms and editing together all relevant scenes. Pretty sure this is how the screenwriters wrote this script.

Yet, the result is highly entertaining and engaging, all the cliches are pleasantly filmed and acted by two charismatic and attractive leads. I have to admit that Daisy Edgar-Jones turns out to be really good actor. She is completely swallowed up in the role and manages to express absolutely perfectly small doubts and even random thoughts with her eyes and face. I really liked her in Fresh and she gives great performance here as well. She needs to get more challenging roles and characters, she can be top actress of her generation.

Anyway, the movie is broad and very generic, the writing is simple and straightforward, but somehow it works. And by "works" I mean that the viewing experience is smooth and pleasant, all my expectations from that sort of a movie are delivered in time and fulfilled as expected, and there are no moments in which I considered to poke my eyes out like in Disney movies. There will be probably a sequel, because of the commercial success. I can only recommend the writers not to continue with the same characters and instead to invent new ones with other actors. The potential of the cliche plot and superficial romcom characters was already exhausted in one movie, any additional dive will only make it worse.

I don't think you've watched enough romcoms. This misses some key elements such as the third act misunderstanding/complication and the last minute dash. Plus, famously, the kiss.

Quite enjoyed the movie, but don't think I'd recommend it to anyone I know or watch it again.

I thought if it were just remake I could enjoy it, but it was just more annoying version of original Twister, anyone who still hasn't seen the new version I recommend rather the original
