Kolonel Karas woont met zijn vrouw Larisa, een gynaecoloog en hun zoon Andrey in een groot huis in de stad. Naast zijn veeleisende baan in het leger houdt de kolonel van jagen en vissen, waardoor hij voor langere tijd van huis is.
