以「源氏物语」与现实世界的连结作背景，讲述找工作失败、被女友甩、且和能文能武的弟弟比毫无优势的独居宅男青年伊藤雷（伊藤健太郎），受到以各种立场跃着的女生的生活方式之影响，逐步成长的故事。

Rai, een gefrustreerde student en parttime arbeider, dwaalt naar huis nadat hij een museumtentoonstelling heeft opgezet over de klassieke roman 'The Tale of Genji'. Er is een verblindende lichtflits en hij merkt dat hij op mysterieuze wijze in de Heian-periode terechtkomt, het decor voor de beroemde roman. Gewapend met een pamflet over de geschiedenis van die periode en een fles hoofdpijntabletten doet hij zich voor als onmyoji (magische beschermer van de hoofdstad) en wordt hij ingehuurd door de vrouw van de keizer, Nyogo Kokiden. Onbevreesd en koel analytisch smeedt ze plannen om haar zoon de positie van de keizer te laten overnemen. Er wordt verwacht dat Rai zal helpen. Deze luchtige historische fantasie is een genot voor liefhebbers van weelderige kimono.

Rai, a frustrated student and part-time labourer, is wandering home after setting up a museum exhibition on the classic novel "The Tale of Genji". There is a blinding flash of light and he finds himself mysteriously time-slipped into the Heian period, the setting for the famous novel. Armed with a pamphlet on the history of the period and a bottle of headache tablets he passes as an onmyoji (magical protector of the capital) and is hired by the emperor’s wife Nyogo Kokiden. Fearless and coldly analytical she plots to have her son take over the Emperor’s position. Rai is expected to help. This light-hearted historical fantasy is a treat for lovers of sumptuous kimono.

59回面接試験を受けるも落ち続けている雷(伊藤健太郎)は、京大に合格した弟に対する劣等感を抱きながらフリーター生活を送っていた。「源氏物語」をテーマにしたイベントの設営アルバイトからの帰宅途中に激しい雷雨に見舞われて気を失った彼は、目覚めると「源氏物語」の世界にいた。アルバイト先でたまたま渡されていた「源氏物語」のあらすじ本を持っていた雷は、息子を帝にしようともくろむ弘徽殿女御(三吉彩花)に陰陽師として仕えることになる。
