My second time seeing it. First watched years ago looking for a film noir and I found it too much of a oater. This time around I really loved it. Some humor with the town rumor mill and Ida Lupino showing her baby photo. Cornet first sure but lightened the mood. I mostly don’t enjoy Glenn Ford. I find him so damned full of himself as some sort of wise ladies man in everything. This one he’s quite dumb but driven and I think it suits him better. The head and tail of the film with the 40s modern day guy trying to find his grandfather’s gold is compelling despite a heavy handed voice over delivery. Final thoughts: it is a noir western and worth the watch. Don’t expect The Big Heat or Treasure of Sierra Madre and you’ll be entertained.
